Complex Tubular Assemblies

With seasoned experience in deep hole drilling, honing, boring and turning, Applied utilizes custom-built machinery to maintain superior consistency and close-tolerance processing when gun drilling long holes into irregular work pieces. Strongly focused on mission critical products, our proven processes allow for a high degree of straightness and accuracy when machining cylindrical parts.

Gun Drilling

Our strength in machining both rotating and static hollow components combined with high-level expertise in high nickel alloys, titanium and aircraft quality alloy steel allows us to meet even the most rigorous requirements set forth to meet the needs of today’s advanced aircraft platforms.

BTA Drilling

For holes sizes ranging from 1″ to 5.125″ diameter we utilize ejector (commonly referred to as two tube or double tube systems) in addition to single tube system drills.

We’re experts in solid drilling and custom tooling to accommodate special bottoming operations. We can handle lengths up to 340″ while maintaining a high degree of bore straightness.

CNC Boring

While most of the single point boring uses bars from 1.5″ to 5″ diameter, Applied Aerospace & Defense maintains a full complement of boring bars ranging from .75″ to 12″ diameter with lengths up to 144″. We are capable of single point boring for parts up to a 57″ ID. Our largest CNC boring machine can swing 59″ with 236″ between centers.

CNC Milling

We’ve recognized the need for complex hollow components that meet today’s demanding specifications. Our state-of-the-art machining services include vertical and horizontal CNC milling capabilities as well as solid model programming software.

  • Vertical milling to 141″ x-travel, 36″ y-travel, 32″ z-travel
  • Horizontal milling to 98″ x-travel, 79.75″ y-travel, 27.5″ z-travel

CNC Turning

Our experience with hollow component manufacturing extends to our diverse turning capabilities. Our advanced CNC lathes include long beg, large swing, hollow spindle and mill/turn features, providing customers with extensive options.

ID & OD Honing

We align customized tools with advanced machining methods, helping to maintain a higher degree of centerline accuracy. This allows for a high degree of metallurgical integrity, roundness and finish to the working surface.

Honing Range

  • Diameter: 1/2″ – 24″
  • Length: Up to 300″

Trepanning

In addition to gun drilling, Applied Aerospace & Defense offers trepanning (core drilling) services, a method of deep hole drilling used for drilling large diameter holes, leaving a core from the center of the bar.
